The history of the collision repair industry, most specifically, the many companies that support the industry, have a long and interestingly varied past.

1888

The Calumet Paint Company of Chicago is acquired by the Sherwin-Williams company, then an 18 year-old paint manufacturer. Calumet manufactured paints for railroad cars and with burgeoning railroad lines all over the US, the future in these finishes looked bright. Later, as train travel declined, and auto and truck travel increased, Sherwin-Williams changed with the times. Today, Sherwin-Williams is one of the largest paint producers in the US for automotive refinishing.
